UPPER DELAWARE CHAPTER-TU #611
Upper Delaware Chapter -TU was founded in 1991 and has about 100 members. Its territory includes the East Branch, West Branch and Main Upper Delaware and their tributaries. Chapter meetings are held April through August on the last Saturday of the Month. Regular meeting schedule includes guest speakers, fishing tips and information and discussion of upcoming events and projects. Meetings are held at a rotating member’s house at 7:30 PM. Check their web site for the proper location before each meeting.
Activities
Chapter activities include stream projects on Hankins Brook, the North Branch of Callicoon Creek and the main Callicoon Creek. The chapter has an aggressive planting program where they have introduced Streamco Willows, shrubs, Swamp Rose and various trees along the banks of several tributaries and Main Delaware to prevent erosion, provide shelter for aquatic life and filter out contaminants. Also conducts regular clean-ups and helped construct a community garden on the banks of Callicoon Creek. Their annual picnic and youth programs in Callicoon are very well received. The chapter clears the mouths of major spawning tributaries each Fall to allow access for returning trout. They are also working to establish better river flows to support healthy fish and insect populations throughout the Upper Delaware Fishery, which includes the East and West Branches of the Delaware along with the Main Stem. They have active partnerships with the Sullivan Federation of Sportsman and the Federation of Fly Fishermen.
