Background
Home-Waters-TU was founded March 13, 1990 and currently has over 90 members. It's territory covers all the cold-water fisheries within the bounderies of Rensselaer County, N.Y. Meetings are conducted at the Shaver Pond Nature Center, Grafton Lakes State Park & East Greenbush Public Library. Home-Waters-TU Cold Water fisheries include: Upper Kinderhook Creek, Little Hoosick River, Hoosick River, Walloomsac River, Poestenkill Creek,Mill Creek, Quakenkill Creek, Wynantskill Creek, Sweet Milk Creek, Tackawasick Creek, Black River, Brown's Brook, Grafton Lakes State Park (Shaver Pond, Long Pond, Second Pond), Glass Lake and dozens of smaller streams within the 665 square miles of Rensselaer County.The Chapter performs clean-ups and enhancement projects on all of the above fisheries.Chapter Stream Watchers report on fishery conditions.

Activities
Chapter activities include stream projects, an "Embrace-A-Stream Project" on the Poestenkill Creek, annual Trout Stocking, Fly Fishing & Fly Tying Workshops, Annual Family Picnic, 6 day FT Display at Schagticoke Fair, "Take-A-Kid Fishing Program", "Adopt-A-Tree" program and many other public displays. Partnerships include Rensselaer County Conservation Alliance, Rensselaer County Soil Water Conservation District, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Renssselaer County Water Quality Committee, Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park and Friends of Dyken Pond Environmental Center. Chapter Awards include TU Northeast Region Silver Trout for Conservation Award, NYSCTU Conservation Award, NYSCTU Newsletter Award. Three HW-TU Chapter members have received the Rensselaer County Conservation Alliance "Conservationist of the Year Award". Chapter presents annual "Silver Trout Award" and "Charles H. Peterson SR Memorial Award" for "Volunteer of Year" to its selected members.

Communications
The Chapters E-newsletter at National TU web-site was selected as E-newsletter of the week (1999)(2000). Chapter communications consists of "Home-Waters On-Line Newsletter":, Monthly E-bulletins, E-newsletter at www.tu.org.
